5 Questions Worth Asking at Your Child's Well-Visit
A well-child visit isn't just weights and vaccines — it's a scheduled block of time with someone who knows your kid, and the best chance you'll get to ask the questions that accumulate between appointments. Parents often tell us afterward that they wish they'd raised something. Here are five worth writing down before you come in.
First: “Is my child growing and developing on track?” We plot height, weight, and head circumference on a curve, but the more useful conversation is about milestones — how they're moving, talking, and interacting. If something's a little behind, this is the visit where we can watch it or act on it early, when help works best.
Second: “Are they eating and sleeping the way they should for this age?” Nutrition and sleep drive an enormous amount of a child's health and behavior, and what's normal changes fast in the early years. A five-minute conversation here heads off a lot of worry — and a lot of late-night internet searching.
Third: “Which vaccines are due today, and what's coming next?” Understanding the schedule ahead of time makes each visit smoother and lets you ask about anything you've read. We're always glad to walk through what each vaccine does and why it's timed the way it is.
Fourth: “What should I watch for before the next visit?” Every age has its own normal-but-worth-knowing signs. And fifth: “When should I call you instead of waiting?” We would always rather get the quick phone call than have you sit up worrying — knowing which symptoms mean “call today” is one of the most useful things a parent can leave a visit with.
